Michael started his hairdressing career with an apprenticeship in Hamburg, Germany.
In 1957 he came to Canada to work at a well known salon in Edmonton.
In 1960 he moved to Toronto and became Style Director
at the famed Gus Caruso Salon.
Michael spent the next seven years becoming one of Toronto's most visible hairstyling personalities. From being President of the Hair of Guild Design, to participation in international exhibitions and demonstrations, to his many contributions to fashion magazines, Michael lead the way.
In 1967 he opened the Michael Kluthe Salon, an 1800 sq. ft establishment that was subsequently enlarged in 1970, 1975 and 1980. Today it stands as a 6,500 sq. ft full-service salon.
In 1970 Lili Jakel joined the Salon and together they created a new concept - departmentalization. With Lili heading the "Colour" department and Michael in charge of "Styling", they struck out on a successful path.
From the 80's through the 90's and to present, Michael has worked with the prestigious hairdresser's organization Intercoiffure Mondial, an organization of 3,000 elite hairdressers from around the world, representing fifty countries.
